Laboratory of nucleotide base chemistry

The Laboratory was established in its present state in 2008 after the reorganization of the Laboratory of chemical and biological investigations with the formation of two ones: the Laboratory of chemical and biological investigations and the Laboratory of nucleotide bases chemistry.

The laboratory is headed by Doctor of Chemistry,
Vyacheslav Semenov

Main directions of research

  • The search for the novel pharmaceuticals, chemistry of oxy- and mercaptopyrimidines and their aza-analogues (quinazolines, triazines, alloxazines, purines). As a result anticholinesterase drugs, which selectively inhibit acetylcholinesterase of phasic muscles, were synthesized in the laboratory for the first time. Highly selective a-adrenoceptor blockers were discovered. In the last years the plant growth regulator “Melafen” active in the 10-4-10-8% concentrations, and highly selective and non-toxic antituberculosis drugs were developed.
  • Synthesis, physical chemistry and biological investigations of heterocyclophanes – macrocyclic compounds, containing pyrimidine and other N-heteroaromatic units.
