Laboratory of heterocycles chemistry

The Laboratory of Heterocycles Chemistry was founded in 2002 (Head of the Laboratory is Professor Vakhid A. Mamedov) on the basis of the Laboratory of Organic Synthesis, which until 1994 was called the Laboratory of Petrochemical Synthesis (Head of the Laboratory was Professor Ya.A. Levin).

Head of the Laboratory is Professor
Vakhid A. Mamedov

Main directions of research

  • The development of procedures for synthesis of podands with quinoxaline, thiazole, pyrimidine heterocyclic systems containing redox-, pH- and light-sensitive fragments, providing the possibility of podands transformation into heterocyclophanes and catenanes and conditioning their property to reversibly respond to external action.
  • Development of efficient methods for synthesis of various heterocyclophanes, perspective for the creation of nanosize containers with switchable properties depending on the redox and medium conditions.
  • Synthesis of stereoisomeric a-hydroxy-a-methoxycarbonyl-w-benzcycloheptanes, i.e. highly functinalized indanes, tetrahydronaphtalenes and benzcycloheptanes, clearing the way to the synthesis of natural alkaloids, on the basis of new for epoxides intramolecular aromatic substitution in a-chloro-b-(w-arylalkyl)glycidates (or isomeric to them chloropiruvates).
